2019 Estate Primitivo
Tasting notes
Although there have been contentious long-running debates about this famous variety's geographical origins, there is little question that Primitivo's modern-day home is in Pulgia, southern Italy. It's believed to have arrived in Italy from the coastal vineyards across the Adriatic Sea in Croatia, where it is still grown today, under various tongue-twisting names of Tribidrag, and Crljenak Kaštelanski. In the early 19th Century, the variety was introduced to the United States, under the name Zinfandel. It proved extremely successful in California, earning a reputation as “Zinfandel: California's Heritage Grape”. It caused significant dismay on both sides of the Atlantic when DNA analysis proved that Zinfandel and Primitivo were the same variety. In true Italian tradition our Primitivo offers dark fruit & spicy nose which complements the smooth mouth feel with a soft lingering finish.
