2015 Estate Lambrusca
Tasting notes
Lambrusca di Alessandria (lahm-BROO-ska de Al-ess-and-ria). This grape is found in the Piedmonte region of Northern Italy. Flavors of black cherries and a hint of anise. Pairs well with rich meats. Lambrusca di Alessandria has no known research which would give any DNA data and no additional biotype name. The original vines which these cuttings come from, were brought into Mexico by the Italian winemaker at Bodego Santo Tomas in the 1930. The true identity then was not the know other then it was collected from a vineyard in Calosso, Italy, which is a small area of south Asti. We got this varietal recognized in the U.S. and our Lambrusca di Alessandria has since become world famous! Cougar Vineyards and Winery was featured in Ian D'Agata's book “Native Wine Grapes of Italy” where he acknowledge our winery three times in his book; with his most important comment being: “Cougar Winery maybe the only winery in the world which produces the Lambrusca di Alessandria as a single varietal wine!”
